A traditional northwest streamer pattern, the Spruce fly has been used to catch steelhead, sea-run cutthroat, and trout.

How to Fish

For steelhead, use a traditional wet-fly swing. For sea-runs, use a sinking or sink-tip line and cast the fly in slackwater pools, especially under overhanging brush; count-down-and-retrieve at a moderate pace. For trout, cast and retrieve (slow water) or use a wet-fly swing (faster water).
