How to Fish

Use a count-down-and-retrieve presentation with a short, jerky retrieve. Steep banks and other structure are good places to work the fly.

Tying Instructions

1. De-barb hook, place in vise, start red thread.

2. Tie in grizzly hackle tip for tail. Save rest of feather for body hackle.

3. Tie in tinsel, then body chenille.

4. Wrap chenille forward. Tie off and trim.

5. Wrap tinsel forward. Tie off and trim.

6. Wrap hackle forward. Tie off and trim.

7. Build a small head. Whip-finish and trim.

HOOK: Dai Riki 700, size 8

THREAD: Red

TAIL: Grizzly hackle tip

BODY: Black, brown, olive, light olive, peacock, purple, yellow, or red chenille

RIBBING: Small silver or gold mylar tinsel

HACKLE: Grizzly, palmered
