Recipe

HOOK SHANK: Waddington or similar hook shank. Or use 1X heavy, standard shank, turned-up eye; e.g. TMC 7999 or equivalent, and cut off hook at the bend

THREAD: To match body

STINGER HOOK: "Intruder" wire for hook of your choice

EYES: Large dumb-bell eyes

REAR COLLAR: Orange chenille

TAIL: Orange bucktail, then four orange-dyed grizzly hackle fibers, then amherst tail fibers

BODY: Orange dubbing

WING: As for tail: Orange bucktail, then four orange-dyed grizzly hackle fibers, then amherst tail fibers

HEAD: Orange tri-lobal dubbing.

 

Uses

In the big fly/big water traditon of Northwest winter steelheading--a tradition that brought us the mega-popular Intruder--this fly creates a large "presence" in the water.

 

Variations

Other good color choices are black, purple, black-and-blue, pink.

 

How to Fish

Present with a traditional wet-fly swing and a sink-tip line.
