A classic steelhead fly, the Comet is good for probing cool, deep flows.

The body, tail, and hackle colors can be endlessly twiddled with. With a black tail, black body, and a silver rib, the fly becomes a Black Boss. Other common combinations: orange hackle/gold body/black tail; chartreuse

How to Fish

Traditional wet-fly swing or use with an indicator rig and dead drift the fly near the bottom. Or combine the two tactics and dead drift the fly upstream from you, then let it swing at the end of the drift.
