Is the Deschutes in Danger? Yes!

By Scott Richmond

The Deschutes River may be in trouble--big trouble, beyond anything you can imagine.

An nasty algae is taking hold in the river, and it's smothering the aquatic insects that are the basis of the food chain. Trout, salmon, steelhead, land animlas, birds--all could be drastically impacted. How real is this threat? Where does it come from? And what's being done to protect the river?

If you love the Deschutes and its fish, you should listen to Scott Richmond's interview with Dave Moskowitz, Executive Director of the newly-formed Deschutes River Alliance. MP3 audio, about 10:11

Scott Richmond is Westfly's creator and Executive Director. He is the author of eight books on Oregon fly fishing, including Fishing Oregon's Deschutes River (second edition).
